With my keen interest in Microsoft SharePoint and being inspired by attending Mix06 this has been something I’ve been working in the background. Thanks to the Microsoft team for helping to get this off the ground and others in committing their time to make the user group a reality.

We took this photo at TechEd 2006 of the crew who made this possible to capture the moment! Thanks to Microsoft team, Ryan Duguid, Ian Morrish for the local support and Mike Fitz for your insights on UG across other parts of the world.

Why is this important?

A growing interest in the Microsoft SharePoint technologies space fuelled by the upcoming release of Windows SharePoint Services v3 and Office SharePoint Server 2007 there is demand for knowledge sharing.

The purpose of the NZ SharePoint user group is to encourage knowledge sharing, personal development, identification of opportunities and input into best practice techniques related to Microsoft SharePoint technologies and directions.

Since I am based in Wellington, we are going to get this going in Wellington as a start, our first meeting is on Wednesday 13 September 2006, at the local Microsoft offices, with Microsoft presenting the vision and direction of SharePoint followed by a group discussion about what people want from the User Group.

The event will start at 6pm and will conclude with drinks for the guests attending. Head over to UG registration site to RSVP.
