I joined as a contributor to the NZ AI Forum this year. The AI Forum organised the annual summit in Auckland which was attended by a large number of people who had an interest in the developments of AI initiatives in NZ.

Here are my thoughts from attending the Aotearoa AI Summit organised by AI Forum NZ

It was a day of diverse and multifaceted dialogues where some shared their views on a number of topics and the opportunities that AI and in particular generative AI (gen AI) have already created. The application of the capability in context to helping to uplift and improve productivity across micro and macro systems of work as we know today. The impact to innovation augmented by AI and how to approach this in a way that does not disadvantage or disrupt current systems of work, acknowledging the need to change & take advantage guided by the principles of AI for Good.

One theme out of several of key discussion topics that I think we need to explore more with these opportunities is:

“What do we (I) need to do in order to raise awareness & understanding of AI in a way that will enable (all) New Zealanders’ to benefit from socio economic impacts of AI”

A way to frame this thinking,

Thinking about what you do today how would you take advantage of AI to do your best work and why?

How would you have these discussions with your colleagues and your peers, managers and wider stakeholders?

What do you need to know first before having these discussions, is your level of knowledge of AI and AI skills at a level that you are comfortable with?

What are you doing to improve your AI skills?

How would you educate someone else on the potential of AI and collaborate with AI augmented colleagues?

What is the AI Forum?

The AI Forum brings together New Zealand’s artificial intelligence community, working together to harness the power of AI technologies to enable a prosperous, inclusive and thriving future New Zealand.
